Wonder why posting has slowed to a crawl here on Ecliptic Sight. Blame it on the games, Batman: Arkham Asylum (playing the the first one because I already bought Arkham City), Gears of War 3, Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. I will try to keep up but with the holidays in full swing and great games coming down the pipeline it will be hard to juggle everything. Copperthistle Starts Anti Biters Coalition

Let me start off by saying all the art below does not belong to myself or Ecliptic Sight. All rights and artwork is by digital artist known as Copperthistle on Deviant Art. I put that disclosure at the top because it seems he has a problem with biters (people that steal his work without giving credit to him). So he transformed it into art by starting the Anti Biters Coalition.

The concept works well with his hip-hop inspired work which also has a lot of biters in the industry. Here Copperthistle transforms MF DOOM into a zombie with the dark colors flowing into the haunting image of him devouring human remains.

Little Work Makes Big Design

I first witnessed Juart Little’s impressive work at DeviantArt and was taken back by his use colors and expressions. He definitely chooses some of my favorite artists to give his interpretation through his designs. Little has drawn Aesop Rock, Cypress Hill, Planet Asia, Afu-Ra, Pharaohe Monch, RZA, Tash, Immortal Technique and many others giving the underground hip-hop some shine. Juart’s art does not stop at hip-hop and his work goes from tattoo designs to fonts and much more. His website at digitalbluecollarworker.com displays his work in a simple but elegant way to let his designs become the focal point.

IMA-ONE creates a Robot Robinson

John Robinson delivers fierce lyrics to any track he spits on. Now he has teamed up with Robot Koch to transform into Robot Robinson. Their sound is a mash up of Hip-Hop and Electronic music to nicely combine the genres. Robot Robinson did not stop with their sound scape and injected it into their artwork with the help of IMA-ONE. IMA-ONE is a graphical genius from the land of Japan and gives his own unique spin on their concept. If you check out The John Robinson Project website you can see sketches of the art below and the album cover with the final project also.

Logan Walters’ Wu-Note Project

I found Logan Walters’ Wu-Note Project by accident, searching for images to update my MP3 collection. After seeing the cover for GZA’s Beneath The Surface, I had to find out who was the designer. This lead me to his website13156 page where he had this to say about the project:

“no offense to the original designers, but as iconic as they might be they’re looking pretty dated these days. So, armed with inspiration…book of Blue Note Records covers, I set out to remake all 21.”

So far on his Flickr account, he has 17 out of the 21 covers that he is recreating and will continue to add them there.

D3: Dilla Dependence Day

Now it is time to tell my Dilla story in memory of him on February 10th. I discovered Jay Dee aka J Dilla as some others might have walking into Fat Beats in the late ’90s and hearing:
“Hey, hey, hey, h-hey, hey
What you say, get this money
If they say what you gon do today, just say
Hey I wanna get paid
Pay day, pay day, pay day”.
With this hypnotic hook and a beat that caughted your soul it was apparent I was hearing something new. So I asked the DJ/Store clerk who it was and he said that’s Slum Village. I nodded my head and headed over to the vinyl to find this Slum Village musical master piece. I found a 12″ vinyl named, “Slum Village – Get Dis Money (off of the Office Space soundtrack)” and wonder if this is the right one and take it to the counter. With a quick glance at the turntables I see I selected the right one. With the record in hand I take it home and play out the vinyl until I know every intricate loop.

So my mouth was now watering for a Slum Village full LP. In the summer of 2000 my prayer was answer with Fantastic Vol. 2 on GoodVibe Recordings. With people from Q-Tip to D’Angelo to the Roots saying they were the ones to watch I knew I was making a great purchase. I never knew I how much I would I would love this album. J-88 was “The Best Kept Secret” because I did even realize it was Slum Village until a couple of listens. With the next album not featuring Dilla I skipped it anticipating Dilla’s new solo career. It came from the most infectious song called, “B.B.E. (Big Booty Express)” off the album: “Welcome To Detroit”.

I thought to myself what could Dilla do now to continue his excellency? Well he would team up with one of my favorites emcee/producers Madlib to create one of the brilliant collaborations in the history with Jaylib – “Champion Sound”. It truly was a champion sound that every fan of either one could cross reference to find the perfect album. Three years later and now signed to Stones Throw, J Dilla would deliver his most illustrious musical adventure with an instrumental album simply called “Donuts“. Released on his birthday it would solidify his production values but it would be short lived with his death three days later. J Dilla will be called ahead of his time, one of the best on the boards but I will always remember his infectious beat that caught my ear on the summer day from a turntable and speakers.

We Feel Fine is a website that I stumbled upon when I was reading a post at UnEasySilence about TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) and they put a sample video for Jonathan Harris. On the video he talks about We Feel Fine and what inspired him to make it. Basically it is a website that looks at different websites for certain words and takes the sentence. Then it puts it on We Feel Fine as a particle (sentences) that reacts to your cursor, words on the screen and other particles. Gallery Nineteen Eighty Eight aka Gallery 1988 LA aka G88 and Golden Apple Comics present: Under The Influence: A Tribute To Stan Lee starting January 8, 2008 through February 1, 2008. I was put on to this by the one and only Detrimental and would have loved to see this. You might remember G88 mentioned here before about their artistic take on 8-bit video games. This time they honor the legendary Stan Lee who has created numerous super heroes and super villains to blockbuster movies that many have grown up on. The artwork above is by artist Tessar Lo and is done with “mixed media on stonehenge, mounted on wood. approx. 22 x 29″. There is alot more to see at the Stan Lee Tribute Artwork website and the actual gallery itself. The some of the artwork can also be purchase so if you are in the area then this is definitely one not to miss.

Alright so it isn’t hidden surprise that much but you can miss if you are not looking for it on the Stones Throw’s Soul-Cal Records website. Cedric! Soulful Comix is a nice black and white comic that will enlighten you to how Cedric the Entertainer obtained his Soul-Cal shirt that he wore at the Nickelodeon’s 19th Annual Kid’s Choice Awards. To advance through the story you have to click on the comic and at the end you will be given the article that inspired the funny comic.

Super Mario Bros. 3 Firefox Theme Version 2.6

It is no secret that Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite game of all time and that Firefox is my browser of choice. So how do I bring that love for the game and the browser together. Well the answer came with a Firefox theme by freewally called the Super Mario Bros. 3 Firefox Theme Version 2.6. It is a visual mashup of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Firefox that is pure eye candy.

Install instructions for the Super Mario Bros. 3 Firefox Theme Version 2.6:
Download the theme to your desktop from freewally.
Open up Firefox.
Go to Tools/Add-ons/Themes.
Drag the Super_Mario_Bros_3_2_6___Back_by_freewally.jar file on to the Themes window.
Software Installation window will pop up.
Click Install Now.
Super Mario Bros 3 2.6 will show up in the Themes window.
Click Use Theme.
Restart Firefox.
If you want check View/Toolbars/Customize/Use Small Icons to use the pipes toolbar instead of the standard Mario and Luigi toolbar.
Finish.

Gallery Nineteen Eighty Eight will be host of the second annual I AM 8-BIT nicely dubbed, verison 2.006. I AM 8-BIT: version 2.006 is an art show that lets over hundred artists give their interpretation of 1980′s video games through different media. It varies from canvas to t-shirts to cloth and last year there was even a Pac-Man grenade. Now if you can imagine that then you will enjoy this pixel parade of people’s perception. The show begins April 18th and will run until May 19th, 2006. More information can be found at iam8bit.net and nineteeneightyeight.com and to wet your appetite as what is in store here is a wallpaper from iam8bit.net. Is that who I think that is?
