One thing I always worry about is when a group breaks up or want to put out solo albums is that one artist gets the shine and releases more music. It happened to Dilated Peoples with Evidence, Vast Aire and countless others putting out multiple albums while their counterparts Rakaa, Vordul Mega and others put out one or two at the most. This happened when Company Flow went separate ways with El-P making his label with a sudden stream of albums with Bigg Jus starting a label and putting out two solo albums and two collaborative albums but then he seemed to slow his output. Well all of his can rejoice because he is back with a single called, ”Advanced Lightbody Activation“. It is that futuristic on the next level music that you expect from the King Spitter himself. Not only that we found out he is releasing an album called, “Machines That Make Civilization Fun” on May 8, 2012 and with a title like that you can only imagine what he is cooking up for his fans. If you go to the Mush Records’ (the label putting out his new album) Sound Cloud page you are enticed with the new sound that will hitting your ear lobes. I am ready to hear some new material from the Bigg Jus and had to let everyone know about this one. Check out the artwork for Machines That Make Civilization Fun below:

ESP Music Agenda: The Dirty Politicians

So it is another year with another new site design and another ESP Music Agenda. This one makes me proud because it comes from my brother Cardiac and his group, The Dirty Politicians. They are making moves in Bakersfield (Killer Kern), California and have opened up for some big names such as 2 Live Crew, Onyx, Sean Price, Rakaa , Afro Man, Tech N9ne, Sand People, Luckyiam, Sic Jacken, Keith Murray, and more. I have even put one of their songs, “Rockey Red Eyes on the Ecliptic Sight Podcast: Future Edition and one of their live show videos. So I have been waiting for this and now I can put the world on The Dirty Politicians album, “Dirty Architecture” on Bandcamp. If you have been missing that west coast music like I have then you will be happy to add this to your catalogue. With songs like, “Flip the Page” that talk about their trials and tribulations to, “West Up” you will been nodding your head until it falls off. With Merge on the beats, he is crafting music that is intoxicating that will make you appreciate real hip-hop again. I can not speak highly enough about The Dirty Politicians and their music. Cardiac and Merge have dropped the visuals for their song, “Cold Box” off the album, “Loose Leaf & Lead” on Youtube that is directed by Evil Duer of the group and it shows that their creativity doesn’t just stop at the music. So sit back and prepare yourself for The Dirty Politicians movement.

Okay stop whatever you are doing and go to AmazonMP3 store because they are having a sale on albums for $5 dollars a piece. It is very random what is on sale and it is just best to look if the album you want is on sale. I have a MP3 Wishlist that I add albums to so that way I can go back and buy them later when I have the funds. Slaughterhouse!!!!

I have been telling people that Slaughterhouse is about to blow up and I have had a couple of examples to give them. They are four separate artists Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5’9″ that have been doing their thing on the solo tip then they performed a song on Joe Budden’s ”Halfway House” which they knew they had a chemistry to form the group. They released their first album, “Slaughterhouse” in 2009 on E1. In 2011 they released an EP called, Slaughterhouse EP, to hold over the fans until they could finish up their Shady Records debut album. They say they are about 75% finish with that album which I know will finally put them on the map. So to display their lyrically ingenuity Eminem, Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse decided to go to the B.E.T. Awards 2011 Hip Hop Cypher and murdered the whole thing. Watch the video below and you will be yelling Slaughterhouse!!!! like Rihanna (you will know what I mean when you watch it).

ESP Music Agenda: August Vinyl Purchase

Trying to expand my vinyl catalog and was surprised by a nice little gem some record companies are doing to keep buyers purchasing physical copies. They are adding digital download cards to the vinyl so you have it on the computer as well on your turntables. I definitely support this movement because it is easier than trying to rip your vinyl and separate the songs through an audio program. I love it when I stumble across music like this. I was on Fifth Element to see if they had pre-order on the new Evidence album. On the front page I saw an album cover for a group I have never heard of. They are called Soulcrate Music and the album is, “The Kick Rocks Collection” and I clicked the link to see what they were about. So I ventured to YouTube to see if I could find their videos and was greeted with this one called, “See Today” off their album I mentioned above. So I thought I would share a new group I discovered so you can do the same.

Stones Throw does a lot for music such as dropping the latest Madlib track or delivering the soulful crooning of Aloe Blacc. Now it looks as if Stones Throw will be responsible for more music video content. With their 15 year anniversary, they decide they wanted the fans to get involved by having a video contest. With the vast catalog of Stones Throw aspiring music video directors only had thier own creative stopping them. After Evidence gave away the Beatles inspired album, “I Don’t Need Love” on his birthday as a gift to his fans, that just fueled the fire anticipating his new album that was announced on Rhymesayers Entertainment. ESP Music Agenda: Albums Unexpected

There are two albums that definitely caught me by surprise with releases this month. First up is a new Wu-Tang album entitled, “Legendary Weapons” similar to how their last album came out of no where called, “Chamber Music”. I will never complain about any Wu music because I have purchased my fair share of releases and they have been on a streak of hits with their recent solo efforts. The album will be out June 28th.

Next up is also a treat with the team up of Eminem and Royce da 5’9″ also known as Bad Meets Evil. If you heard the song, “Scary Movies” and this does not make you drool over this project then I do not know what is wrong with you. The new EP will drop on June 14th. With two powerhouses coming out in June this looks like a great month for Hip-Hop and music in general.

IMA-ONE creates a Robot Robinson

John Robinson delivers fierce lyrics to any track he spits on. Now he has teamed up with Robot Koch to transform into Robot Robinson. Their sound is a mash up of Hip-Hop and Electronic music to nicely combine the genres. Robot Robinson did not stop with their sound scape and injected it into their artwork with the help of IMA-ONE. IMA-ONE is a graphical genius from the land of Japan and gives his own unique spin on their concept. If you check out The John Robinson Project website you can see sketches of the art below and the album cover with the final project also.

So you are probably wondering who is Hail Mary Mallon? Well the answer is Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz teaming up to bring you that back and forth flow with deadly cuts that has been missing from groups recently. The name, Hail Mary Mallon is in reference to:

Mary Mallon aka Typhoid Mary, the first person in US identified as a carrier of the pathogen associated with typhoid fever.

Their first single, Smock has a hypnotic beat with Aesop and Rock carrying the verses while DJ Big Wiz provides the cuts. Hail Mary Mallon gives the visual treatment to Smock with the group driving around San Francisco with special guest appearances from DJ Big Wiz, Kimya Dawson, and artist/illustrator Alex Pardee.

Tips To Beautify Your MP3s

So do you have a boring foobar that looks like this:

Well with a couple of programs and websites you can have a better layout and/or take your mp3s to any program or mp3 player and have them prepared for primetime. So let us start off with a couple of places to purchase your mp3s to begin with. The first one is a oldie but goodie, Amazon MP3 store. They have millions of albums to choose from and exclusive and daily deals to sweeten it. The newer one on the block is 7digital.com and they are becoming my favorite with there new releases usually being $5 dollars and a locker so you can redownload your mp3s.

The first program to acquire to make sure everything in you mp3 tags are correct is a gem called Mp3tag. You can go through each song or album and fix your tags with the correct information. It has alot of built in tools to accomplish this such as case conversion, tags to filename or using a website to update your mp3s information.

That being said the next website to visit is MusicBrainz.org for mp3 information. They have loads of people that submit album tags so you are more than likely to find the right version of your album on there. You can also register to become a member and update or add albums in there databases but rest assure most likely they will already be there. Another nice feature is that it is built into the Mp3tag program so you can use the database in there.

The final website to bring all this together is AlbumArtExchange.com. They have tons of album art to embedded in your mp3s so that you can view them on foobar or your mp3 player. They usually have artwork 600 pixels or bigger to spruce up your player of choice.

Nas & Damian Marley Teaches Sabali

So you may remember Nabil Elderkin from the Homeboy Sandman music video that I posted awhile ago. Well now he takes it to the next level and grabs one of my favorite songs from Damian Marley & Nas are Distant Relatives album called, “Patience”. Nas has always been a visual lyricist weaving his words to paint pictures in your mind and Damian Marley comes with his deep rooted soundscape to collide with Nas’ wordplay. The result is one of best collaborations to happen in music. Nabil Elderkin infuses visuals and camera work that compliments their music perfectly making it a masterpiece. So it is that time of the year again where I wrap it up with my top picks of 2010. So much great hip-hop out there and a lot of it I missed but will try to make up for next year. So lets get into with the list in no particular order.

2 Hungry Bros. – Back For Seconds. Listen to some of your favorite emcees from Homeboy Sandman, 8thW1 to L.I.F.E. Long over the delicious beats by 2 Hungry Bros.

Agartha Audio – The Hollow Earth. Producer Dig Dug makes haunting beats to allow his Uncommon Record brethens to rip the hollow earth apart.

Animate Objects – Danya and the Fail Present: The Shit. The second song on this album entitled, “Grow Ass Man” is the mindset to be in listening to this fine collection.

Apollo Brown – The Reset. Apollo Brown has the magical red reset button to bring hip-hop back to the masses.

Bobo Meets Rhettmatic – BMR The Mixtape. Not necessarily a hip-hop album but from the genius of Bobo (Cypress Hill) and DJ Rhettmatic (Beat Junkies) how could you not love this collaboration of live instruments and turntables.

Boog Brown – Grind Season vol. 1. Boog Brown will dominate any other artist of any gender and does it with class.

Butta Verses – Slow Down Ha Ha (Single). Butta Verses is exactly what you get on this song.

Chosen Few – New World Symphony. New Hiero affilialtes want to start a new world symphony and they deliver on that.

Clan Destined – A Story Never Told. Nice concept album of how some emcees pay to get on a mixtape and then it turns into something they didn’t want.

Count Bass D – Hartsfield JAXson. R.I.P. Jax. Count Bass D & DJ Pocket pay homage to the Jax with his rhyme partners from Binkis and others. Count Bass D & DJ Pocket deliver a great album with lyrics, beats and cuts, what else can you as for.

Damu The Fudgemunk – How It Should Sound – Volume 1 & 2. On the intro Damu The Fudgemunk says, “…interpret the title how you wanna..” and with the way he crafts his beats show that this is how hip-hop should sound.

Diego Bernal – “Besides…”. Deigo Bernal is a new name to me but his beats bring back that boom bap sound with a spanish influence that needs to be heard to believe.

Dillon – Cupid’s Revenge: The Ain’t Shit Suite. First Dillon gets a whole album of beats from Paten Locke and now he gets beats from Batsauce. If the album cover doesn’t give it away then be prepared for a interstellar ride about Dillon’s take on women and love.

Donwill & Von Pea – The Sandwich Shop. Donwill & Von Pea two-thirds of Tanya Morgan lift the beats from The Roots – Sandwich EP and do it a great service by delivering satisfying words to the music.

DTMD – The Basics (EP). Dunc and Toine Makin Dollas paying homage to EPMD with their name. The Basics have a head nodding sound that make you feel like this is straight good music with out no filler.

Dumbfoundead – Music. Dumbfoundead gives us a peak at his genuis with this free mixtape with him flowing nicely on every beat given.

Eminem – Recovery. This is the Eminem I remember from his first couple of albums and brings a great recovery for music. His song for Proof (R.I.P.), “You’re Never Over” definitely celebrates his life.

Fashawn & DJ Green Lantern – XXL & Orisue Presents “Ode to Illmatic”. What can you say about a tribute album to one of the best lyricist and his best album from one of the best up and comers. I guess this is enough, go get it.

Freddie Joachim – A.M. Freddie Joachim gives us another instrumental album that can be listened in the A.M. or P.M. and give you the most compelling melodies to enjoy.

Future Ape Tapes – Temples. If this is your first journey to the sound temples then you are in for a treat because they have now honed their skills to give you the spaced out music for your ears.

Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime – SomeOthaShip. With Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime guiding this ship they craft something that is meant to be heard.

Guilty Simpson – OJ Simpson. Guilty Simpson lays the verses and Madlib lays the beats, do I need to say anything else.

Homeboy Sandman – The Good Sun. By far the one of my favorite albums of the year. Homeboy Sandman creates a whole album of music that you can not stop listening to because of his flow and subject matter.

J Dilla – Donut Shop. J Dilla (R.I.P.) more of that neck breaking music from the producer that you all know and love including myself.

Jay Electronica – Exhibit C (Rob Viktum Remix). Rob Viktum takes a stab at remixing an already dope song with his own brand making it sound just as nice.

Joe Kickass – Let Me Introduce. Joe Kickass introduces himself as an emcee to watch for.

Joe Kickass – Mind Joe. After Joe Kickass introduces himself, he wants you to mind the lyrical gifts that he drops all over his full length.

Joe Scudda – Not Your Average Joe. Joe Scudda bombs your ears with his unrelenting flow that will not let you go even if you try to get away.

Junk Science – A Miraculous Kind Of Machine. Junk Science takes their signature hip-hop and gives you some kind of miraculous thing to keep in your deck.

Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The only man that I know in the industry that can do what he wants and still sell records. This time he is back on the some hip-hop stuff that will make you wonder where does he go from here.

Kenny Diaz Presents – The Lost Episodes V. 1 & 2. From 1995 to 1999 you can discover all of the lost hip-hop that still sounds contemporary for 2010.

Kooley High – B-sides and Rarities. Kooley High gives us all of the b-sides and rarities that we might have missed and you should thank them by getting this.

Little Brother – LeftBack. It is sad to say that this is the last Little Brother album but they go out with a bang and leave you waiting for their solo and different collaborations.

LMNO & Kev Brown – Selective Hearing Part 2. LMNO & Kev Brown lend their selective hearing to the godfather of soul, James Brown and make a soulful album of beats and rhymes.

Madlib – Madlib Medicine Show #1: Before The Verdict. The jury are back in and the verdict is that Madlib and Guilty Simpson do it again.

Madlib – Madlib Medicine Show #5: The History of the Loop Digga, 1990. Here is a record of Madlib beats from the 1990s and he even lets his CDP crew represent hard on this one.

Mainframe – e.q.e.p. If you like those joints that bump then you can get with Mainframe and Blu on this EP.

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx – The eXXecution. The eXXecution is flawless with Marco Polo providing the beats that Ruste Juxx slaughters.

Meth, Ghost & Rae – Wu-Massacre. If you are a Wu fan and don’t have this album then it is time to get into the Wu-Massacre before you lose your life (or miss out on these three the hard way).

MF Borat – So Good to Me (Single). DigDug invents the perfect beat to let MF Doom make music so good to me.

MF GRIMM – You Only Live Twice: The Audio Graphic Novel. If MF GRIMM can do this with two lives then he needs to be granted many more.

MidaZ The BEAST – El MidaZ Affair. This is the MidaZ affair but invites us all to find out why he is a beast on the mic.

Murs and 9th Wonder – Fornever. Fourth album of Murs and 9th Wonder and they are fornever quitting.

Mystik Journeymen – Return 2 The Love. It is not a come back but a return to the love of hip-hop.

Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley – Distant Relatives. Nas and Jr. Gong come together to give you a familar style that is paired nicely.

Obii Say – The Vinyl Proxy 1965. The vinyl proxy used by emcee Obii Say and producer Sinitus Tempo gives you a vintage mixing of new material that succeed on each song.

Oddisee – Odd Spring. Spring beats from Oddisee that move you in ways you didn’t think possible.

Oddisee – Odd Winter. Winter time is the theme behind this frosty instrumental album that will warm up your soul.

Opio – Mark It Zero. The Big Lebowski infused joint from one of your favorite hieroglyphics members but don’t mark it zero, mark it sick.

Pack FM – I F*cking Hate Rappers. Pack FM explains while he can’t stand rappers by rapping. It makes senses when you listen to it.

Persevere & Style MiSia – The Vintage Edition EP. Persevere gives the vintage edtion of his catalog so you can remember why he does his music.

Rah Digga – Do Your Numbers (Single). Nottz produced single (that is not on the album) to promote her newest album entitled, “Classic” and it sounds that way.

Rapper Big Pooh – The Purple Tape. Rapper Big Pooh reminiscences over this purple tape that makes you want more.

Ras Kass & DJ Rhettmatic – A.D.I.D.A.S. The album that I knew he could always make with him just spitting complex words and supported and paid by fans and myself alike.

Reflection Eternal – Revolutions Per Minute. Reflection Eternal took a minute to release this one but it was worth the wait.

Rhymefest – El Che. Rhymefest needed to start a revolution to get his album out and it should catch on.

Rocky Reason – Part Dark Matter. She has an alien introduce this album and that gives the overall feel for this spaced out piece.

Ski Beatz – 24 Hour Karate School. Ski Beatz harnesses the backdrops for emcees to karate chop on this one.

Slum Village – Villa Manifesto. Maybe the last Slum Village album and with songs like, “Earl Flinn” show that they never lost it.

Strong Arm Steady – In Search Of Stoney Jackson. Strong Arm Steady are bless with a whole album of Madlib invasion beats and it makes for one of the best of the year.

Tame One – The Hell or High Water EP. Junkwaffel lays down just the right beats for Tame One to black out to.

Tarica June – Moonlight Revolution (The Mixtape). This one came out of no where with some of the nicest lyrics from an up and coming emcee.

The Heart & Brain – Mbodiment. With 23 tracks and no filler it is a great accomplishment with everything working for this album from beats to rhymes.

The Residents – Open House. Munshine and Saint definitely have a open house that you should visit and will return to frequently.

The Roots – How I Got Over. The Roots always get over because they don’t settle for nothing but quality music and this one does it right.

TiRon – MSTRD. I have always liked mustard better than ketchup and TiRon proves that it is also true with his sound.

Toki Wright – BlackMale. Toki Wright is going to catch you by surprise. It is hip-hop that makes you feel empowered.

Tone Liv – Path Train To Jersey. Took the ride to Jersey with Tone Liv and now I understand why it was worth the trip.

Trek Life & J.Bizness – Rhymes Within Reason. They rhyme and produce for a reason and it is to create ample music.

Turbo – ElectroRockv5: Long Live Lightning Level Lyricism. Fifth album in the ElectroRock series and he still defies how much better he can get.

Unique Assassin – Spelling Bee Champ. If Unique Assassin was put in a spelling bee contest then he could spit every letter and make it sound extravagant.

Von Pea – Pea’s Gotta Have It. He said this is the album he wanted to make in school. It takes you back while still sounding fresh.

WEB & I.D.e.A – God’s Favorites. WEB & I.D.e.A are becoming one of my favorites and can be yours too after you give it a listen.

X.O. – One. One. Ten. After killing it on Diamond District, he does it again and again all over his solo effort.

ESP Video: Shaolin Wu Cap

Recently I purchased the Shaolin Wu cap from AmazingStore.jp and wanted to make a video of the cap coming out of the box. The stitching and quality is just what you expect from a New Era cap, excellent. Shaolin and the Wu-Tang logo are on the front of the cap with Applebum logo and Wu-Tang name on the back. On the inside label it says “OG edition”. Overall I feel this cap does Wu-Tang proud and I will wear it that way. Check out the video to see it in action.

These two releases are the exception because Dillon has proving his musically prowess on his album, “Studies In Hunger” and the Mystik Journeymen (of Living Legends) need no introduction with years of quality of hip-hop. If you remember auto reverse then you had a cassette collection of hip-hop that you lost once you went digital. Fast forward and now we have another F.A.T. update from our favorite internet neighbor, Future Ape Tapes to add to our digital collection. While us mortal humans toil away at our daily lives, Future Ape Tapes have begun to build “Temples”. Their “Temples” consists of musical sound waves that will crash against your ear lobes. If you have not gotten it yet “Temples” is the brand new album from F.A.T. The first song on the album titled, “Mirror Images” just made me keep hitting repeat. On their Bandcamp site you can “Name Your Price” for their new album which includes a video of their first single, “GameGirl”. Also you can check out their other releases which I own and also highly recommend.

Temples, as an album is about stumbling onto something that is thriving now but could be lost forever in the future.

Finally got around to rebuying Killarmy – Dirty Weaponry after my CD was scratched up beyond recognition from being played too much. This is the first song off the album and it still gave me that same electrified feeling as if I was hearing it for the first time again.

There are certain artists out that make music for the love and progress of hip-hop and music, either by what they say or do. I remember on a radio interview awhile ago the radio host asked Wordsworth (of Punch & Words and EMC), that if he had a million dollars what would he do. His answer was that he would build a studio and make music all day. Ever since I heard that I knew I would buy anything he released. Another man in the same vein is Damu The Fudgemunk who I showed you do it for the love in Washington Square with his Akai. Here is another album cover done by headpiece747 for the video game, Lost Planet. The soundtrack was included on the collector’s edition of the game. The composer Jamie Christopherson also has ten out of the fifteen songs on his website for free download. Lost Planet is a mech/FPS that made me feel as though I was in the movie Starship Troopers. The visuals of the game are still impressive by today’s standards. The soundtrack is handled perfectly by Jaime Christopherson mixing soothing tones and chaotic effects to match the pace of the game. If you have not played the game or heard the soundtrack then definitely pick up the collector’s edition so you can have both.

So I passed the Digital Dust – Dusty Folders Vol.1 to DJ headpiece747 and he was taking back by the skills of Primus Maximus on the Monome. He liked the mix so much that he took out his bottle of alcohol and started to design an album cover for it. He posted it on monome.org after DJ Tes (of Digital Dust) asked to see it and then Primus Maximus had this to say:

But it says “Dust Digital” on the cover while we are Digital Dust.

Incarcerated Monome Scratch

each is a reconfigurable grid of backlit keypads which connects to a computer. interaction between the keys and lights is determined by the application running on the computer. there is no hard-wired functionality.

live sample cutters, math simulations, drum machines, generative controllers, tonal maps, games, visualizations.

Sandman Buries His Lightning Rod

Oh Word had posted up this video for Homeboy Sandman called, “Lightning Bolt. Lightning Rod.” the other day and I knew the name sounded familiar. So I checked my music catalog and found him featured on the free PH (formerly known as Pumpkin Head) mixtape, My Era (No Skinny Jeans Allowed). With a little more digging I found the “Director’s Commentary” of the video with director Naheem Adio Kujenya adding comments to the video. One nice things to find out is that some of the extras in the video are emcees themselves.
